Regular Inspection:
Visual Check: Look for signs of damaged or missing grease seals, which will allow contaminants to enter and grease to escape.
Play Check: Regularly check for excessive clearance.
Have an operator slowly move the stick and bucket while you observe the pin joints.
Use a pry bar to check for movement between the pin and bushing. Any significant visible or measurable movement indicates wear and the need for replacement.
Scheduled Measurement: During planned maintenance intervals, use calipers to measure the internal diameter (ID) of the bushing and the diameter of the pin. Compare these measurements to the wear limits provided in the service manual.
