Daily Lubrication (The Single Most Important Task):
Use the Right Grease: Use a high-quality, high-pressure, extreme-purpose (EP) lithium-based grease as specified by Caterpillar.
Frequency: Lubricate all pin and bushing joints on the front linkage and cylinders at the beginning of every shift, or more often in severe, abrasive conditions (e.g., sand, mud).
Proper Technique:
Wipe the grease fittings (zerks) clean before attaching the grease gun to prevent injecting dirt.
Apply grease slowly until you see fresh, clean grease purging out from the seals on both sides of the joint. This ensures all the old, contaminated grease is flushed out.
Wipe away the excess grease to prevent a buildup that can trap abrasive particles.
