Functional Testing
Perform these tests methodically:
Sensor Verification: In the monitor's service menu, check that sensor readings are plausible. For example, the coolant temperature should read close to ambient air temperature when the engine is cold. Hydraulic pressure sensors should read 0 kPa when no functions are activated.
Lighting and Alarm Check: Activate the headlights, work lights, and travel lights. Check that the travel alarm sounds when the travel levers are moved.
Engine Start and Running Checks:
Start the engine. Ensure it starts smoothly without unusual noises.
Once running, re-check the monitor for active diagnostic codes.
Verify that warning lights for low engine oil pressure, etc., extinguish after startup.
Check that the alternator is charging by observing the voltage gauge on the monitor (should be ~28V for a 24V system).
Hydraulic Function Check: Slowly operate all hydraulic functions: boom, arm, bucket, swing, and travel. Ensure they are smooth and responsive. Erratic behavior could indicate a faulty pilot pressure sensor connection or a problem with the pump controller communication.
