Periodic Preventive Maintenance
Check and Clean Rod: Regularly extend the cylinder fully (place the bucket on the ground safely to relieve pressure) and thoroughly clean the rod with a clean rag before retracting it.
Check Fluid Level and Condition: Low hydraulic fluid can cause aeriation and system damage. Contaminated fluid is the leading cause of internal seal and component wear. Follow Cat's recommended intervals for sampling and changing hydraulic fluid and filters.
Inspect Linkage: Check for loose mounting pins, worn bushings, and excessive play in the linkage. Worn linkages can create misalignment and impose abnormal side loads on the cylinder, leading to premature failure of seals and the rod.
