Daily/Pre-Shift Inspection (Visual Check)
Leakage: Check for any signs of hydraulic oil leakage around the:
Rod seal (where the rod enters the cylinder barrel).
Barrel end caps (gland and head).
Hydraulic hose connections and ports.
Note: A slight film of oil is sometimes acceptable, but a dripping leak is not.
Rod Condition: Inspect the exposed piston rod surface for:
Scratches, Scoring, or Pitting: Any damage to the hard-chromed surface will quickly destroy the rod seals, leading to leaks.
Bending or Damage: Check for any visible bending or impact damage.
Mounting Hardware: Check for loose or missing bolts, pins, or retainers at the cylinder's mounting points. Look for cracks in the mounting lugs.
Hoses and Lines: Inspect hydraulic hoses for abrasions, cracks, bulges, or leaks.
