Scheduled Preventive Maintenance
Keep it Clean: Before any maintenance, especially when checking fluid levels or disconnecting lines, thoroughly clean the cylinder and surrounding areas. Contamination is the number one enemy of hydraulic components.
Check Hydraulic Fluid:
Regularly check the hydraulic oil level in the tank. Low oil can cause cavitation and pump damage.
Change the hydraulic oil and filters at intervals specified in the Caterpillar Operation and Maintenance Manual. Old, degraded oil loses its lubricating properties and contains abrasive particles.
Lubrication: Grease all cylinder mounting pins and linkages during regular lube intervals to prevent wear and ensure free movement.
