Regular Lubrication (Greasing):
Frequency: Follow the Caterpillar operation and maintenance manual strictly. A common practice is to lubricate the slewing bearing every 50 service hours or daily in severe, abrasive conditions (e.g., sand, dust).
Procedure:
Clean the grease fittings and the area around them thoroughly before attaching the grease gun.
Rotate the upper structure slowly while applying grease. This ensures the grease is distributed evenly throughout the entire raceway.
Apply grease until a slight purge is seen from the seal lips. This indicates old, contaminated grease is being forced out.
Use the Correct Grease: Always use the grade of extreme-pressure (EP) lithium-based or other grease specified by Caterpillar.
