Securing the Bearing (Bottom Side):
Fasteners: Use only the specified, high-strength, pre-load hardened bolts, washers, and nuts from Caterpillar. Standard bolts cannot handle the extreme stresses.
Lubrication: Lightly lubricate the bolt threads and the contact faces of the washers with clean engine oil. This is critical for achieving an accurate and consistent clamp load during torquing.
Torque Sequence: This is the most critical step. Tighten the bolts in a cross-pattern or star-pattern sequence in multiple progressive stages (e.g., 50 Nm -> 150 Nm -> Final Torque). This ensures the bearing is pressed evenly onto the mounting surface, preventing distortion. The final torque value specified in the service manual is absolute.
