Maintenance of Bushings
Proper maintenance is crucial for maximizing the service life of bushings and the components they protect. Neglect can lead to premature failure, costly damage to pins and arms, and unsafe machine operation.
Daily Inspection (Walk-around Check):
Visual Check for Grease: Look for evidence of grease being purged from the ends of the pins and bushings. This is a good sign that the grease is flowing through and pushing out contaminants.
Check for Visible Damage: Look for signs of excessive rust, scoring, or gouging on the exposed ends of the bushings.
Regular Lubrication (The Most Critical Step):
Follow the Schedule: Adhere strictly to the Caterpillar recommended lubrication schedule, which typically advises greasing every 10 service hours or at the start of each shift, especially in severe operating conditions.
Use the Correct Grease: Use only the high-quality, extreme-pressure (EP) grease specified by Caterpillar.
This 228-5654 bushing is used for 324D excavator.
