Enhanced Stability on Slopes: This is the primary purpose. When working on a cross-slope, the operator can lean the front wheels uphill. This dramatically lowers the machine's center of gravity and positions the tires perpendicular to the slope, greatly increasing stability and reducing the risk of tipping.
Improved Traction: By leaning the wheels to match the angle of the slope, the full tread of the tire maintains better contact with the ground, improving traction and push power.
Reduced Tire Sidewear: When operating on flat surfaces with a angled moldboard, significant side-thrust (bladepull) is generated. This force can scrub and prematurely wear the sidewalls of the front tires. Leaning the wheels into the force helps to counteract this scrubbing action, aligning the tire's rolling resistance with the direction of force and extending tire life.
