Warning: Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before attempting any repair.
Minor Insulation Damage: For a small cut in the wire insulation, clean the area and use quality electrical tape or, preferably, a dab of silicone sealant followed by heat-shrink tubing for a more durable, waterproof repair.
Damaged Wire: If a wire is broken or severely damaged, it must be spliced.
Do NOT use simple twist-and-tape methods.
Use a Proper Crimp Tool: Use a sealed, adhesive-lined heat-shrink butt connector. This provides a strong mechanical connection, electrical continuity, and environmental sealing.
Damaged Connector or Pins: If a connector housing is broken or a pin is bent/corroded, the best practice is to replace the entire connector using a Caterpillar repair kit. These kits include new pins, seals, and housings.
