Input: The driver turns the steering wheel. This movement is not mechanically linked to the wheels but acts as a signal to the hydraulic system.
Signal Amplification: The steering wheel is connected to a steering metering pump (or a similar control unit). This unit senses the turning input and directs a proportional flow of high-pressure hydraulic fluid to one side of the steering cylinder(s).
Force Generation: Pressurized oil enters the cylinder barrel and acts upon a large piston. The immense pressure in the hydraulic system, acting on the large surface area of the piston, generates the tremendous linear force required to move the axle.
This 276-5246 steering cylinder is used for 770 770G caterpillar truck.
