Regular Greasing (Lubrication):
Frequency: Adhere strictly to the recommended lubrication intervals in the M318D Operation & Maintenance Manual. This is typically every 50 service hours or daily in severe, abrasive conditions.
Procedure: Use the grease fittings (zerks) on the bearing. Rotate the superstructure slowly while injecting grease. This allows the fresh grease to circulate and push out old, contaminated grease, which will be visible purging from the seal gaps. Clean the purge areas after greasing.
Grease Type: Always use the Caterpillar-recommended multi-purpose, extreme-pressure (EP) grease. Using the wrong grease can damage the seals and compromise lubrication.
