Lubrication (Greasing)
This is the most crucial maintenance activity.
Grease Type: Use only the high-quality, extreme-pressure (EP) grease specified by Caterpillar, typically a lithium-based complex grease. Using the wrong grease can lead to seal degradation and inadequate lubrication.
Greasing Interval: The 330C is equipped with an automatic lubrication system (optional) or manual grease zerks. Follow the machine's operational hour recommendations in the operator's manual. A common practice is to lubricate the bearing every 10-50 operating hours, but this can vary based on application severity (e.g., more frequent in abrasive or wet conditions).
Procedure:
Clean the grease fittings thoroughly before attaching the grease gun.
Rotate the upper structure slowly and continuously while greasing. This ensures the grease is distributed evenly throughout the entire bearing raceway.
Pump grease until a slight purge is seen from the seal lips. This indicates that old, contaminated grease is being forced out and the cavity is filled with fresh grease.
Important: Do not over-grease. Excessive pressure can damage the seals.
