External Cleanliness: Check for a buildup of dirt, dust, leaves, chaff, or other debris on the front and rear of the core. Even a thin layer can act as an insulator.
Damage Inspection: Look for bent fins, damaged tubes, or leaks. Bent fins restrict airflow. A leaking tube will show signs of coolant residue (often green or red, and sticky).
