Heat Treatment (The Critical Step): They undergo a specialized heat treatment process called induction hardening.
Process: An electric current is used to heat only the outer surface of the component to a very high temperature, which is then rapidly quenched.
Result: This creates an extremely hard, wear-resistant martensitic case (typically 55-60 HRC on the Rockwell C scale) on the outer surface, while the core of the material remains tough and ductile to absorb shock and prevent brittle fracture.
Finish: The surfaces are often ground to precise dimensions and may have a phosphate coating to aid in rust prevention and initial lubrication during the "break-in" period.
This 176-2278 pin is used for 320C 320D 320D2 320 323DL excavator.
