Scheduled Lubrication (Greasing):

This is the single most important maintenance activity. Follow the 980H's Operation and Maintenance Manual for the exact greasing schedule, which is based on machine operating hours.

Use only the Caterpillar-approved multi-purpose grease or its equivalent.

Proper Technique:
Clean the grease fittings (zerk fittings) before attaching the grease gun to prevent injecting dirt.
Pump grease until you see a clean grease purge from the seals at both ends of the bushing. This ensures old, contaminated grease is flushed out and the cavity is full.
Wipe away excess grease to prevent dirt accumulation.
