The machine consists of two main sections: the front frame (containing the engine, cab, and front axle) and the rear frame (containing the drivetrain and rear axle).
These two frames are connected by a massive vertical hinge pin, allowing them to pivot left and right relative to each other.
The articulation cylinder acts as the muscle that creates this pivot. When the operator uses the articulation control (usually a joystick or lever in the cab), high-pressure hydraulic oil is directed to one side of the double-acting cylinder.
As the cylinder extends or retracts, it physically pushes or pulls the front and rear frames, causing the machine to articulate.
This 137-6790 articulation cylinder is used for 160H 140H motor grader.
