LaserClad™ Piston Rod: This is a flagship technology. The piston rod is treated with Caterpillar's proprietary LaserCladding process. A wear-resistant alloy is metallurgically bonded to the rod surface using a high-power laser. This creates a surface that is significantly harder, more abrasion-resistant, and far more resistant to corrosion and pitting than traditional hard chrome plating.
